About The HCCLT:
The Horry County Community Land Trust (HCCLT) is a newly formed non-profit organization committed to making homeownership and housing products more attainable for Horry County’s workforce.
HCCLT will prioritize permanent workers and their families —teachers, first responders, hospitality workers, healthcare staff, and other essential employees who help keep our community thriving.
This initiative ensures that local workers can afford to live where they work, reducing commute times, supporting local industry, and strengthening our economy.
The Trust is specifically designed to serve permanent residents of Horry County, ensuring that housing remains accessible to those who live and work in our community year-round.
How the land trust works:
The HCCLT acquires and holds land for the long term, ensuring that homes on this land remain affordable for generations.
Homebuyers purchase the home but lease the land from the Community Land Trust at an affordable rate, reducing the overall cost of homeownership.
If homeowners decide to sell, the resale price is controlled to maintain affordability for the next buyer while also allowing the homeowner to build equity. It is a win-win of both economic opportunity and housing attainability.
